I have blueish/gray smoke coming from the exhaust on rebuilt 302?

I have a rebuilt 302 and smokes some at idle and alot at acceleration. I seem to have some oil residue in the exhaust and i did the pistons right were i dont have the rings in a straight line everything is correct. i ran synthetic at first thanks to misleading summit technicians, but then after finding out this is not what to do i used motor flush and tried to clean it out then ran conventional oil with zinc treatment. i have put 100 miles on it and still acts the same.... but now for some reason i am losing quite a bit of oil... like a quart in a half in a 30 mile drive. i have alot of after market parts such as custom ground cam, afr heads, edelbrock upper and lower intake, 30lbs injectors and mass air flow. anybody have suggestions thanks. Engine/cam break in; did you do it? How did you do it?



Never...ever never ...use synth oil for the break in run. That's common knowledge regardless of what the rube at Summit said ...you can't blame them 'cause you shoulda done your homework before cranking the motor for the first time. I think too, that using the motor flush was also not a good move. You should've just drained the synth, changed the filter and reloaded with dino.



If you didn't know about using dino oil for your break-in run then what other things did you miss?



Since I have no idea as to how well or what you did/didn't do in rebuilding the motor I would suggest you pull out your compression tester and your vacuum gauge. Run a compression check and see what you get ....it should tell you the health of your piston sealing (rings %26amp; valves). Since the engine is freshly rebuilt then each cylinder, ideally, should be the same or pretty darn close. If you find a low cylinder (hopefully only one) then you've found the probably source of your oil burn. But continue with the vacuum gauge.



A vacuum gauge will clue you into the internal health of your engine under running conditions. With a vacuum gauge you'll have diagrams showing the common symptoms of everything from a too rich mixture to weak valve springs.



Between these two gauges you should be able to determine what has gone wrong. In any event, it sounds like you're gonna need to tear into the motor. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Hopefully you've learned a thing or two.I have blueish/gray smoke coming from the exhaust on rebuilt 302?
You're burning your oil up. Somehow something got messed up and oil is getting into the cylinders and burning up and coming out the exhaust. I'm not saying you did anything wrong. I'm saying something went wrong.
