Why does my roommates cat puke constantly?

This cat is ten years old, has no tail (not that it matters) and they got her at a flea market. My roommate doesn't seem to mind that the cat pukes constantly. She thinks it's funny that I'm squeamish because of it. The cat puked liquid and solid that looked like poop. The cat is clearly sick. This happened today and it also happened on Monday. The cat is in a different surrounding (how much different, I couldn't say. I've never seen where either of them lived previously). I am seriously freaked out. I have been around cats most of my life and I have never even seen one puke let alone as much as this cat has. I keep finding it everywhere including in my bedroom. I don't know what to do. I am a squeamish person and it would very much freak me out to come home to a dead cat. PLEASE... give me some insight.

By the way, the cat is gray in color and not skinny but not fat.Why does my roommates cat puke constantly?
Hairballs, worms or some other sickness. Tell your roommate that they need to take it to the vet, or it might get worse and....I don't want to say this...maybe die!
Your roommate needs to take it to a vet for a wellness checkup to make sure it has no serious problems. Some cats are pukers and its just how they are...sometimes they eat too fast or the food does not agree with them. That is something you will most likely have to learn to live with. In the meantime keep your bedroom door shut and watch where you are walking. Why does my roommates cat puke constantly?
Maybe he has problems with alcohol.

Watch him closely.
sounds like this may be a hairball issue, have your roommate get some laxatone or hairball remedy and give that to the cat daily. the cat really should be checked out at the vet there are a number of reasons a cat will vomit, some are no big deal others especially if left too long will require surgery.

your roommate should be ashamed of herself for laughing at the poor cat when it is throwing up. how would she like it if someone laghed at her when she throws up.Why does my roommates cat puke constantly?
It's definitely hairballs. My long haired cat gets them and it's particularly bad if the cat has fleas or a skin allergy because that causes them to clean them selves more and lick more.

You can buy preventive food that says for hairball control and they sell a tube of hairball remedy at walmart for fairly cheep. the tricky thing is getting the cat to eat the stuff, mine wont. I have to mix it in his wet food.

since buying the food my cats hairballs have been cut back from 3 a week to about 1 every month.
Maybe your friend is not paying the cat's problem seriously....You seem to care more about the well being of the cat. What you can do is switch the cat's food, sometimes it is a certain ingredient in the food making the cat vomit. Try feeding it only dry food, not canned foods. So try the brand "goodlife" , something with chicken or salmon in it is good, stay away from tuna. Give the cat time to adjust to that food, if you see that the cat is improving then keep giving him that food. I recommend also trying a diet that has fish oil in it and that will prevent shedding because cats vomit to get rid of excess fur.

Does the cat groom itself constantly? some cats groom more excessively than others. I have two cats of my own and one is grooming itself at least two times as much as my other cat. The yellow one which grooms nonstop would vomit all the time because of that. The other cat however would never vomit.

If the cat continues to vomit , then this is not normal and it may have parasites or another serious problem, please talk your friend into taking the cat to the vet.

Oh and you said the cat vomits liquid and solid...that makes me believe that it is the food that is causing trouble for the poor cat. That's exactly how my cat used to vomit and when we changed it's diet it got better, every now and them he vomits but it's furry vomit :O, which means it's because he grooms excessively, but it's nothing that will harm my cat.

Please do your best for the sake of the cat!
Yeah it could be food related.. cheaper foods that have artificial coloring can irritate the intestinal tract and result in frequent puking and also not being able to go potty... NOT FUN! happened to my cat, she stayed at the vets for 3 days to get her hydrated and make sure she was going again.... cost only $160.... hardly anything for my cats well being... get your room mate to take her to the vet and get a check up! the poor thing! or call and get advice on a cat food that is better.....
They puke for various reasons, hairballs (if there's hair init), upset stomachs, water too cold when they drank, IBD which is food related, food dyes in the cat food can do it even.

If the cat is sick, it needs a checkup. Ask the vet about giving 1/4 tablet of Pepcid AC (the only safe one for cats) once a day to help calm the stomach acids.

You're very lucky if your cats never barfed. With 5 in our house we have about one barf a week to clean up.
It is probably sick. It may have hairballs, worms or some other illness or disease.

I once had a cat who swallowed an earplug. She got very very sick and puked for days and I finally took her to the vet who x-rayed her and found the earplug. She had to be cut open and have it removed.

A coworker of mine had a cat who was very sick and puking and he had a hairball and a twist in his intestines. He needed surgery.

Make her take the cat to the vet. It is very unsanitary for you guys to be walking through puke piles and eating nearby.
This cat is sick. 1st clue? IT CAME FROM THE FLEA MARKET! Make your room mate take the cat to the vet or et rid of it. If both of you are on the lease, then both of you must agree on whether you have animals.

If yodon'tnt want to be that harsh, get a baby gate, a tall one, and lock the cat in you room mates room. That way she will be the only one that has to deal with the puke.
